I am Huang Luying, a student majoring in Cultural Industry Management in the School of Arts.
Two years ago, I leapt at the chance to study Art in the School of Arts of Peking University. But I had rarely been exposed to art before and was unaware of even the most basic concepts. In my first year, specialized courses such as ‘Art Theory’, ‘Aesthetic Theory’ and ’Introduction to Drama’ made me nervous just looking at their course descriptions.
One decision that I am particularly proud of was choosing to take my studies in the research direction of Cultural Industry Management during my second year. Subsequently, I was lucky enough to be enrolled in Professor Lin’s courses, where I had my first experience taking part in the class discussions, learning how to combine the practice and theory, doing field work, completing a presentation as the group leader, reading original sources and understanding my major from a whole new perspective. I thoroughly enjoyed her courses because of her kindness and unique way of teaching. She has been one of my biggest inspirations! Gradually, I gained a better understanding of cultural industry management, and found that my research interest lies in the field of cross-cultural studies, cultural marketing and art management. I joined NCRICA’s research group, eager to improve myself. I put in great effort to manage various projects and finally reaped the benefits with the support and guidance of professors and other team members. I will continue to expand my knowledge in my research area, study intensively and consistently. I hope that one day I will make my own contribution to the cross-cultural communication research and practice of our country.
