I am JU Gaoya,a Ph.D. student of Scholl of Arts. It is my honored here to be a member of NCRICA’s research group, making progress with my fellows under the guidance of our teachers.
I received my undergraduate degree at Sun Yat-sen University in Public Relations. This is an interdisciplinary field involving both media study and Management. It is during this time that, for the first time, I came into the concept of Culture and Art Marketing and started to do some explorations in this area. In getting some preliminary knowledge, my interest in this major increased, and after graduation, I went to King 's College London to study Cultural and Creative Industries. In this period of time, I found the scientific nature, advancement and leading innovation of CCI theories but also realized some inadaptability of these highly developed and western theories in China. So I decided to go back to China to learn more about Chinese cultural industries and Chinese art.
At the beginning, I was very confused because research in Art Management and Cultural Industry in China was just emerging at that time, and scholars study both Chinese and western cultural industry theories were also few and far between. Fortunately, I met Professor Lin and her research team. Under her guidance, I gained new understanding of Art and Culture Marketing and Management, learned how to carry out academic research, and inspired a lot in academic thinking and writing. More importantly, I started to know the significance of practice in CCI studies, especially in art management and cultural marketing. Since CCI is a highly professional and practical major, how to contact theories with practice is a crucial topic for all of us. Only by combining these two together can we have a more comprehensive understanding and thus doing a realistic and valuable research.
Two years have passed since I joined this group, with the help of my teachers and fellows, my horizon has been broadened, and my academic and practical ability has been improved. Although still have much to learn, I believe that with the processing of our research and under the direction of our tutor, I can make progress together with my fellows and gradually grow into a qualified researcher.
