During the summer of 2012, after I earned my bachelors degree, in Industrial Design, from Zhejiang University. I decided to take a step further on academic pursuit in overseas for challenging myself and exploring an unknown and wider world, that is driven by my eagerness of living aboard and hesitation of design career. Same year as 2012 In the United States of America, I started my trans-discipline graduate study at Department of Political, Michigan State University in major of Public Policy. During two years of study, I had to put much more effort than the others to fulfill those gaps in my blank fields in order to fully understand regarded professional knowledge, since I have no background in mathematics, statistics, economics and finance. Ever since I challenged and conquered myself over and over, and accomplished tasks I ever thought were impossible. I saw that infinite possibilities of one’s potentials, which became the source of my happiness over that period. After graduated from Michigan State University, I got my first job as a policy analyst in an energy company located in Chicago. Day in and day out, life seems going on track, so that I felt my life was started fading out. There was one thought came out of my mind: this is not what I want. Soon afterwards, I realized it is the distance between art and me that mostly made me feel upset. So in the last year when I worked in the United States of America, I decided to pick up the brush again after putting them down for two years and obtained other certificate of Fashion Design from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago while I had a day time job. Also, I began to undertake researches on the arts policy of the United States at the same time.

After I came back to China, I tried to find a job that perfectly combines art and policy. However, I figured out that there is still an enormous development space to enlarge in Chinese art and cultural industry. Especially for the policy of art, it is still waiting for people who have dreams, passion, and abilities to promote, innovate, and improve. So here comes the question for myself: Either I will engage myself into the industry to become a professional personnel learning by practicing? Or I will become a theoretical leader by taking full advantages of my professional knowledge? After careful deliberation and wide research, I noticed the major of Art Management and Cultural Industry that offered by the School of Art, Peking University matches my interest and academic background well. I decided to go back to university, to learn to think from academic, rigorous, dialectical, and professional point of view.

At present, I’m participating in my professor’s research project, which is focused on studying how appropriate polices could be provided to support and promote contemporary art talents step onto the world stage, for the purpose of refining the theoretical basement of Chinese arts and culture to facilitate cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries. In the following semesters, I’m going to combine the academic theory and realistic practice with the purpose of stimulating the Chinese cultural and art’s vigorous development.
