HE Xi, Master Student

Since childhood, I loved painting and sometimes drew on the wall improvisationally with oil painting sticks. I grew up with beautiful memories that I, sitting on the edge of a lotus pound or in a courtyard full of flowers, was sketching during the summer vacation of the primary school. In lines and colors, the hobby gave me a great sense of happiness and accomplishment that attracted me and nourished me.

As an art student, I chose the major of art design and management. The original intention of this major is to train the management talents of those who are skilled in designing. In this emerging intersectional major, I absorbed the nutrients of the two subjects and studied the design principles, aesthetic principles, marketing, fashion industry management, consumer psychology and other courses.

In the meantime of the preliminary study of industrial management, I actively participated in some artistic practice activities, such as practicing in garment production factories, designing and producing art works independently as a photographer in the Chengdu International Fashion Week and several Outstanding Graduation Design Exhibitions in our university, etc. These practices allow me to have a deeper understanding of the entire process from design to product output. China's international brands are few. However, the domestic market gives more recognition to foreign brands. I found one of the problems when China's art design tried to go abroad is the lack of both management talents who understand art and art talents who understand management. It therefore leads me to think deeper: where are the talents who know how to convey Chinese traditional beauty through art? What kind of qualities should be possessed by a management personnel who understand art design? Where is the road to industrialization of art works?

A large number of art practices during the undergraduate period gave me a lot of experience and laid the foundation for the theoretical exploration in the future. From practice to theory and then back to practice, it is the pattern of human cognition. In 2014, I got the qualification to study for a master's degree of esthetics at Beijing Language and Culture University who is known as “the little United Nations". Through the communication with my classmates from all over the world, I gained a deeper understanding of the artistic expression and appreciation of different cultural backgrounds. In the same year, I had the honor to join the research group of the National Social Science Major Fund Project. Under the guidance of the tutor, I participated in the practical research activities in the major research group. Learning from my teachers and classmates, I had a qualitative improvement in vision and understanding.

In the future, I hope to continue learning and practicing in the team and contribute my specialties in artistic expression in order to promote the "Chinese art out of the country".
